Many students miss revise-and-edit questions that require them to know where to put in commas with “interrupters” — especially, appositives.

So, what is an appositive?
It is a noun or noun phrase that renames a noun. It adds extra detail to a sentence, but it is NOT essential to the meaning of the sentence. The correct use of commas is an important part of this writing technique.
